The main duties of a phlebotomist is collect blood samples. This is done by either venipuncture or microtechniques. It is common for them to also draw blood for transfusions and for research purposes. They carefully collect and transport laboratory specimens. Once the training is done with, a person will have all of the necessary skills that are needed to enter the work force. Even though many states require their phlebotomy technicians to get licensed, New York does not. As long as a person has a certificate of completion from an accredited school, they can land an entry level position as a phlebotomist.

The schools that offer phlebotomy training in New York are appreciated by the state as these workers are greatly needed. When choosing a school, it is always good to ask as many questions as possible. Some schools will even let you sit in on some of the classes before enrolling to give you an example of what the class is like.
