IL marriage records or the marriage certificates that the state of Illinois generates are among the most accessed documents of the state. The Freedom of Information Act has mandated the local government of the state to allow its local residents to access the file whenever it is needed.

Marriage records in Illinois have many uses. Genealogy is one of the top reasons for accessing marriage records in the state of Illinois. It has information that is vital in updating the family records. Another important use of such document is for government transactions. Transactions such as insurance and property declaration are one of the transactions that would call for a copy of a marriage certificate. Other processes in the government that would require proof of identity and status can use marriage certificate as an official document. In a rather unusual way, such document is also used when conducting a background check especially on the marital status of an individual. This is mostly done by people who wish to check the marital status of their partners.

A marriage certificate issued in the state of Illinois would contain details about the marriage of a couple. One would know the complete names of the bride and the groom. Other important details that can be found on the file include the date and the place where the marriage took place. Some personal information of the couple can also be found on the certificate along with the names of the parents and the witnesses.

Marriages that took place and have been registered since January 1962 are the only files that the state office of Illinois releases. A processing fee of $5 has to be paid in order to proceed with the search. To simplify the search, it is recommended to provide the basic information of the record that is being requested. The one who requested for the record has to indicate their contact details as well as their relationship with the person on the file. This is important since the document is only released or given to the couple themselves and their immediate relatives. It takes a maximum of 10 days to get the requested record if there are no problems with the retrieval.

The Department of Health Office in Illinois is where the public documents of the state are being kept and managed. This includes the marriage records of the state. However, the said office cannot give copies of the said file because they only assist by verifying the information needed to conduct the search. The document can only be requested at the office of the county clerk where the marriage took place and was registered. It is recommended to send a mail order in order to have the request prioritized.

The state of Illinois has utilized the development of the Internet in delivering information to the general public. With this, marriage records can now be obtained online. This means that the residents of the state can now easily obtain the said document anytime and anywhere. This has eliminated the need to go to any government office in order to request for the certificate since it can be done at the comforts of your own home. Waiting is also eliminated since the requested information can be delivered in just seconds instead of days.
